Landing Page Versus a Home Page Website

Which is better for your business needs? A landing page or a traditional website with a home page and other navigation? It depends on your business and what you are trying to accomplish. Read further to see which type of online presence is best for your business.

What is a Landing Page?

A landing page has a single goal which is to focus the viewer on an individual offer, product, or service. A well-designed landing page can offer a high response rate. It generates sales or leads better than a full website especially if the offering is limited The format is simple and straightforward. A landing page is designed to make it as easy as possible for the viewer to click on the offer and make the purchase.

Landing pages are sometimes referred to as a “lead gen” or “lead capture” page because the main focus is to provide leads back to a business. It is this focus that makes landing pages an outstanding option to increase conversions rates and lower the cost of acquiring a lead or sale.

A landing page may look very different from a traditional homepage, even at a glance. There is no navigation or links to anywhere else keeping the viewer focused on the offer.

Landing Page Components

A landing page is still technically a website but without multiple pages and navigation. It still requires a domain name, hosting, SEO and all the other components that a website needs to be seen.

Every successful landing pages should have the following components::

  • An eye-catching opening banner image or video -preferably feature your product or service in use

  • A clear USP (Unique Selling Proposition) which shows exactly why your product or service is better than the others

  • An easy-to-find CTA (Call to Action) link preferably “above the fold” so customers or clients know exactly how to reach you

  • Social proof to show that others found your business exemplary in solving their problem using testimonials, links to Instagram, Google reviews, etc.

The key component of a landing page is that it will allow you to highlight a single offer (like a free ebook or access to a webinar) in return for providing contact information.

Why Use a Traditional Website?

Many businesses require a complete website. Here are some reasons why:

  • It is important to fully explain what your business does

  • You have a business where is it important to showcase your portfolio work or products

  • You offer other modules and functions, such as online appointments, an event calendar, blogs and/or resources, a way to subscribe, or other functions.

If you only have one main offer, having a full website might be distracting to some. The more options you have, the harder it becomes to make a decision. But, if you have several services or products, there are still ways to make those stand out in a traditional website.

Can a Landing Page be Part of a Traditional Website?

Yes. You may have a traditional website with the typical Home, About, Contact pages, but you can also have a page that is designed with a single goal in mind: converting visitors into leads. When advertising in social media, you would just direct visitors directly to that page which will highlight your unique offer.

You may also notice that website designed has evolved significantly in the past few years. More homepages are starting to look like landing pages. There are still multiple pages and links for other information but an offer for one product or service is displayed prominently and the CTA is very clear.
